About SMC

Social Change And Development (SCAD) was founded by Dr. S.Cletus Babu working with 5 villages in Cheranmahadevi in 1985. He together with his dedicated team expanded the service to 578 villages, 3500 Women and Men Self Help Groups (more than 5lakhs direct and indirect beneficiaries) in Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Kanyakumari Districts of Tamil Nadu in South India. We mainly work in five key areas of Health, Education, Community Organization, Ecology and Community Based Rehabilitation. Now we are in the 32nd Year, we are happy to see the beaming faces of the ordinary people who had very little hope on life earlier. Our unique and well planned programs aimed to improve the lives of the rural people, especially differently abled community. SCAD moved to educational field with 18 educational institutions in Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Coimbatore and Kancheepuram districts by the selfless services of Dr. S. Cletus Babu and Dr. Amali Cletus Babu.

SCAD Medical Centre (SMC) - Multi Speciality Hospital is unique in its services, innovative in its approach, people-centred in its treatment. Establishing SCAD Medical Centre at Ponnakudi is another leap forward in the history of SCAD. SMC is a one-stop holistic care centre to provide better services, which are otherwise available only for a small number at a very high cost, individually addressing the problems of the differently abled persons.

SMC Multi-specialty Hospital was inaugurated on 17th February, 2016. Location of the Medical Centre is Ponnakudi, in Tirunelveli district. It is a small village situated in the midst of the three districts of Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Kanyakumari, and the differently abled children in and around these three districts can now avail of the unique services available and also the other planned services yet to be provided at SCAD Multi Speciality Medical Centre besides total rehabilitation for their well-being.

It is the first institute in Southern Tamil Nadu to deliver medical services to families who desperately need them.
